Gaming in the Bahamas

Gambling in The Bahamas  is big-time. Places like Crystal Palace, the Princess Casino and Atlantis, Paradise Island have almost a thousand slot machines and a dizzying number of blackjack, baccarat, craps, roulette, stud poker, and big six tables. At the huge Atlantis Resort and Casino on Paradise Island, over 800 slots pay out about $35,000 an hour. And win or lose, the show in its new million-dollar showroom is always good.

You can play the slot machines 24 hours a day for less than a dollar, or wait until 10 p.m. for the gambling tables to take their first bids; that's when the sharks come out to play. Minors are allowed on the premises, but just to watch, as the minimum gambling age in The Bahamas is 18. Jackets are required in the evenings for men, if only for the sake of putting on a good show. You won't find any Bahamians here, though: gambling is illegal to residents of The Bahamas.
