The cuisine of Mexico's North is born from the hacienda tradition, and leans towards hearty meat dishes. In Monterrey, you'll find some of the best Carne Asada, Cabrito, Menudo, and Machacado (dry beef) the country has to offer. Also excellent are the turcos (meat empanadas) and tamales. For desert, try the dulce de leche con nuez - condensed milk with nuts. The ultimate breakfast here is Machacado con Huevos.

Monterrey's nightlife centers around bars and cantinas where you can listen to live jazz, rock, mariachis, and other varieties of music. There are usually cultural shows playing at one of the city's night clubs or theaters. There are also plenty of modern discos.
